Welcome to Spokane!!
It was 24 June, 1994 the summer before my senior year of
high school, when I started my career in the Washington National Guard as a M1
Tank Crewmember with C Co 1/303rd Armor in Port Orchard, WA. I went active duty 7 May, 1996 as an aircraft electrician;
retired 30 September, 2016 and, as they say, the rest is history. Like most who
serve on active duty I have been all over the world; parts I hope to see again
and others I wish I could forget. I landed in Spokane for a job in July 2016
while on terminal leave. Since being here I have discovered so many things to
do in Spokane.
Like basketball; We have Spokane Hoopfest, the largest 3on3 outdoor tournament anywhere.You into college basketball? We have Gonzaga University’s Men and Women’s basketball.Into baseball? We have the Spokane Indians a minor league affiliate of the Texas Rangers. Want to catch a Pro Sports game? Take a quick 1 hour flight or 6 hour drive to Seattle and see both the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners. Hockey? We have the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. Youth sports? Between school sports and recreational leagues, we’ve got you covered. Spokane even has a Men’s Rugby team, Spokane Rugby Club Razorbacks. Outdoor activities are only limited by your imagination. The Inland Northwest is also an outdoors Mecca. We have many lakes and rivers to get out on for summer fun in the sun and fishing.
Lake Coeur d’Alene is minutes away and is a top 10 location for smallmouth bass. Spokane River has its own hidden secrets with its native Red Band Trout and pockets of smallmouth bass. If you’re a hunter we’ve got something for you too. Some of the big game in the area are elk, deer, moose, mule deer, cougar, and black bear. Are you a foodie? We have restaurants galore. Want Italian? Try The Italian Kitchen or Luigi’s. Want Burgers and beer; try Wisconsin Burger. And don’t get me started on the breweries and wineries in the area. These are just a few of the things you’ll want to try while stationed at nearby Fairchild AFB. Follow along as I guide you through all things Spokane.
